File being prepared for the DPP follow East Clare collision

Gardaí will prepare a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions after three people were arrested in connection with a road traffic collision in East Clare on Tuesday. A man and two male juveniles have since been released without charge. They had been detained following the collision at Newline, Killaloe which left a woman and two children requiring treatment in hospital. It’s understood the three males fled the scene after the collision. The crash occurred at around 11.30am on the R463 Killaloe to Limerick road at Newline close to Shantraud Woods in an area where roadworks are currently being carried out. It’s understood that a car attempted to overtake a truck and collided almost head-on with an oncoming vehicle carrying French tourists. Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Killaloe station responded to the incident along with Gardaí and National Ambulance Service paramedics. €18,500 of suspected cannabis plants seized in Miltown Malbay

Gardaí have arrested a man and seized €18,500 worth of suspected cannabis plants in Miltown Malbay on Tuesday. At around 1.30pm, Gardaí from Kilrush executed a search warrant at a house in Miltown Malbay. During the course of the search, Gardaí found 23 suspected cannabis plants, which were at various stages of growth. The suspected drugs will now be sent for analysis. A man, aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene was detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Kilrush Garda station. He has since been released without charge with a file being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecution.

Ennis robbery file for DPP

A man in his 20s arrested by gardaí in connection with an investigation into a robbery at a shop on the Kilrush Road in  Ennis on October 18 has this evening (Wednesday) been released without charge. A file will now be prepared for the information of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Arrest in prostitution operation

A person has been arrested as part of an operation targeting prostitution in the Mid-West region, following Garda searches in Ennis and Limerick in recent weeks. Ennis gardaí involved in the operation carried out a series of searches of premises in the town and on the back of this, one person was arrested last weekend. A file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution in relation to the matter. Clare gardaí are working in conjunction with other garda divisions across the Mid-West as part of the operation and their investigations are ongoing. By Carol Byrne

Alleged assault by adult on underage player

A SHANNON couple have contacted Gearóid Ó Maoilmhichíl, the GAA national children’s officer in Croke Park, in relation to an incident involving their son at an underage game in Clare last August. In a tournament organised by the gardaí, Seán and Valerie O’Callaghan allege that their then 13-year-old son was hit by an adult, following an altercation between him and an opposing player. The altercation involving the two players led to their son receiving a red card, which the parents say they have no issue with. “Our son got a red card. As he was walking away, a man ran onto the pitch and punched my son in the back of the head and hit him in the eye. Kyle was on the ground. Gardaí and parents then went onto the pitch,” Mrs O’Callaghan explained. Their son later received medical treatment following the incident. Gardaí investigate An Post employees

A Kilrush garda investigation into an An Post employee is ongoing. The investigation dates back to December 2015 when gardaí were contacted on the issue. It is likely that file will be prepared and sent to the DPP. Meanwhile, it is understood that Ennis gardaí are conducting a separate investigation into an An Post employee.
