Waterford 1-23 Clare 1-20 Six points ahead after the first quarter of this Allianz hurling league tie at Walsh Park this afternoon, Clare looked to be on the way to victory and a top of the table spot in division 1 A but from here on Waterford held the upperhand and emerged as deserving winners. Clare had already qualified for the league quarter finals prior to this tie but they clearly wanted to return to winning ways after their loss to Wexford last time out. Galway 4-14 Clare 0-6 Clare’s wait for an All-Ireland minor camogie title goes on. Their latest final defeat, their fourth in ten years, came at the hands of Galway at McDonagh park in Nenagh on this Saturday afternoon and while the final scoreline is somewhat harsh on Clare, there is no denying the merit of Galway’s win. In capturing the title, Galway repeated their success of 2010 when they also proved too strong for Clare, in a replay on that occasion. From an early stage in today’s final, Galway looked the stronger side but there was nothing to suggest throughout the opening half that the final scoreline would be as one sided. There was only one team in this tie in the second half when Galway dictated matters throughout and, indeed, were it not for goalkeeper Ciara McCarthy who made a number of impressive saves, Clare’s defeat would surely have been much heavier. Limerick 1-13 Clare 0-9 Clare’s hopes of getting to the knock out stage in the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland senior camogie championship are all but gone following a third successive defeat in this season’s championship race. At Cusack Park on Saturday, a strong first half showing by visitors Limerick steered the visitors to their second win of the campaign and left Clare pointless at the bottom of the table. Niamh Mulcahy was the Limerick hero, contributing all but three points of their total. Throughout the hour she proved a handful for Clare. While there is no disputing the merit of Limerick’s win, Clare were, clearly, annoyed with a number of referee John McDonagh’s decisions over the course of the hour. Waterford 1-21 Clare 0-17 Having travelled to Thurles with high hopes that they would repeat their recent league final win over Waterford and qualify for a Munster final date against Tipperary or Limerick on July 10, Clare fans in the official attendance of 19,715 returned in disappointment on Sunday evening after seeing their charges comprehensively beaten by Waterford. However, from here on Cork dictated matters and they held a one goal advantage when the half time whistle sounded. A storming third quarter in which they outscored Clare, 0-7 to 0-2, killed off any hopes of a Clare win and the Banner men now find themselves at the bottom of the division 1 A table with relegation worries on their minds. With Conor Cleary at centre back flanked by Patrick O’Connor and Conor Ryan, the visitors started well and after Cork had opened the scoring through Patrick Horgan, Clare hit four in a row through Colin Ryan (2) Bobby Duggan and John Conlon. By Seamus Hayes Champions Sixmilebridge face an uphill battle if they are to succcessfully defend their the Clare senior hurling championship title after they suffered defeat at the hands of Crusheen in the opening round at Cusack Park on Saturday evening. Crusheen had the better of the opening half and deservingly led by five points at half time when the score was 0-14 to 0-9.  The introduction of Rory Shanahan to the Sixmilebridge attack for the second half turned things around and with eleven minutes remaining they had opened a three point lead, 0-18 to 0-15. They fluffed a couple of chances to extend their lead an d this was the signal for Crusheen for whom the experienced Gerry O’Grady excelled. Two minutes from the end O’Grady had moved outfield where he won possession and then beat three defenders to create a goalscoring opportunity for Darragh O’Doherty whose effort was saved but Patrick O’Grady was on hand to fire the …

Tipperary 4-22 Clare 3-11 A fourteen point defeat in the week before the 2014 Allianz National hurling league gets underway will certainly have given Clare manager Davy Fitzgerald and his backroom team plenty to think about over the coming days as they finalise plans for the county’s clash with Kilkenny in Ennis next week. Such a comprehensive defeat from Tipperary in a repeat of last year’s final wasn’t what Clare followers expected as they headed for the Gaelic grounds in Limerick on Friday evening after the match had been switched from Sixmilebridge because of the inclement weather. Clare’s display was well below anything they had shown since last summer and the management team will certainly have plenty to ponder on as they prepare for the Kilkenny game.
