Clare female entrepreneurs urged to grow with ACORNS initiative

CLARE women looking to begin or grow their own business have until the end of this week to apply for the latest cycle of development initiative ACORNS. Friday, September 10, is the final deadline for early-stage female business entrepreneurs in rural areas to apply for the mentoring programme. This is the 7th year of the Government-backed ACORNS programme, which is supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, under its Rural Innovation and Development Fund. A total of 50 new entrepreneurs will be selected from those who apply but applications have to be completed and submitted by midnight on Friday, September 10. The is no charge to those selected to participate in ACORNS 7 and the free initiative will run over six months from October 2021 to April 2022. Top business award for Clare tech company

A CLARE-BASED tech company, which has been dubbed ‘Tinder For Jobs’, has won a top business award, writes Owen Ryan. Get The Shifts, which offers an on-demand staffing platform to hospitality businesses, has been named as Most Innovative Temporary Staffing Solutions Provider 2021 in the EU Business News Irish Enterprise Awards. The award highlights the continued success of Get the Shifts as they deliver high quality, experienced staff to clients for shift work with as little as three hours’ notice. Shannon Aerospace on the up

SHANNON Aerospace saw a boost in profitability in 2013, according to newly-filed accounts. The profit recorded for the year was €1,119,000, which was more than nine times the 2012 figure. The company was involved in a serious dispute with workers over pensions earlier this year, with industrial action almost resulting. Regarding the pension scheme, the accounts state, “The company operates a contributory defined benefit pension scheme. At the end of 2013, the net pension deficit calculated by the scheme’s actuary had decreased to €15.69 million (2012: €17.79 million). The company has maintained its contribution rate at 13.3% of pensionable salary, up to a salary cap of €50,000. Since the year-end, the company have ceased contributions to the defined benefit pension plan and will replace it with a defined contribution benefit plan for its employees.
