Nominations invited for Cissie Roughan Award

Clare County Council is seeking nominations for the Cissie Roughan Award 2016, a civic award honouring individuals and voluntary organisations that have contributed significantly to the town of Kilrush. Set up in 1993 by Kilrush Town Council to give public recognition to Councillor Cissie Roughan’s work as a member of the Local Authority from 1980 to 1991, the civic award promotes and encourages participation and achievement in the arts, social, business, education, sporting and general life of the town. The award scheme is open to anyone to nominate the person or persons, not necessarily resident in Kilrush, who have made an outstanding contribution to Kilrush society. Garda awards for youth leaders

A new Garda-led competition is to honour young leaders in Clare for their outstanding civic awareness and contribution to the community. The inaugural Clare Garda Division Youth Awards, the winners of which will be unveiled at a special event at the West County Hotel, Ennis on December 3, have been established by the county’s Community Policing Unit to recognise the selfless efforts of six individuals and one group towards others and/or their community. The awards are open to teenagers from ages 14 to 19 from across the county, with a separate award for a group of young people involved in community activity. The closing date for entries is Wednesday, September 30. Entry forms can be accessed on the Garda Siochana website www.garda.ie or at the website of sponsors, Shannon Airport : www.shannonairport.ie.
