From Broadway to the Banner

PEMBERLEY Productions and the Lime Tree Theatre are bringing the one man off-Broadway production of In Acting Shakespeare on an Irish tour this month, with dates in Clare, Limerick and Galway. The tour gives Irish audiences a rare chance to see an off-Broadway production on their doorsteps and it comes off the back of a two-month, sold-out run in New York City. In Acting Shakespeare is a funny, touching and uplifting story of one man’s discovery of Shakespeare, acting and language. Freely adapted, with permission, from Sir Ian McKellen’s Acting Shakespeare, James De Vita tells his own story of a young fisherman searching for a new career. This fun, fervent tribute to one man’s personal journey, deftly weaves some of Shakespeare’s most famous monologues with James’ days as a Long Island fisherman and his nights as a classical actor. Clare Champion tops the poll for election coverage

The Clare Champion broke new ground with our 2014 Local and European elections coverage. With regular updates on our websites  from our team of reporters, Nicola Corless, Carol Byrne, Dan Danaher, Peter O’Connell and Owen Ryan, and photographer, John Kelly, there was a huge following over the two-day count at Treacys’ West County Hotel in Ennis. There was also big engagement via Facebook and twitter. Up to Wednesday evening, our website election coverage had more than 48,000 hits. Of course, this week’s Clare Champion has  comprehensive election coverage, in particular a debate with former TDs Tony Killeen, Donal Carey and Moosajee Bhamjee, as well as analysts, Mike Torpey and Kevin Halpin.

Ralph Lauren’s Niece Fined €2,000

THE niece of fashion designer Ralph Lauren, Jennifer Lauren has been fined €2,000 for being intoxicated  on board a Delta Airlines flight from Barcelona to JFK on Monday, where she frightened and upset passengers and crew. The 41-year-old, who has an address at 210 East 65th Street, New York was on board a flight that was diverted to Shannon on Monday, was charged with three counts under the Air Navigation and Transport Act 1973. She appeared before Killaloe District Court on Tuesday charged with being intoxicated to such an extent that she would endanger herself or others on board a Delta Airlines flight on the previous day. She was also charged with engaging in behaviour likely to cause serious offence or annoyance to those on board the flight, having been requested by a crew members to cease this behaviour. She was  further charged with engaging in behaviour of a threatening, abusive or insulting nature on the aircraft. The case was …
