By half time Clare led 9 points to two with Shauna Canny scoring four frees and a 45 all converted with unerring accuracy. Aideen Hickey a threat throughout landed two points while wing back Sinead O’ keefe scored the best point of the first thirty after a beautiful team move. But that was where their heroics ended as recently crowned All-Ireland champions Cork clinically flexed their muscles to run out comprehensive winners. With the appetite for success warmed up by the St Joseph’s Tulla win in the same pitch, the East Clare wave took over Mallow GAA Complex on Saturday afternoon Scariff/Ogonnelloe were hoping to continue a wonderfully progressive season with success in this final played in cold, but clear conditions. Their opponents, Drom & Inch were the 2020 champions replacing Scariff/Ogonnelloe, who won the 2019 crown and it was the Tipperary side who started the final as favourites. It was indeed heart-breaking for the Tipperary champions as they were the shortest ever champions of Munster only defeating Inagh/Kilnamona before Christmas. The first-half was far from a classic encounter as both sides were controlling their …

The unique floodlit backdrop and sizeable crowd encircling the pitch was duly matched by a rip-roaring tie that ebbed and flowed until Coláiste Muire seized control come down the final straight. With the lead changing hands on six occasions and never more than a puck of a ball between the sides at any stage, it was a tie that essentially could have gone either way. However, while they were slow to start, the Ennis school certainly warmed up as the tie progressed and in the end were worthy winners following a three point unanswered final quarter. The ultimate difference between the sides was the clinical performance of Mary Hanrahan …
