Clare gardener ‘sow’ happy to reap rewards of work

FANORE gardener Carl Wright has certainly reaped what he has sowed with his hard work at Caher Bridge Garden seeing him named among Ireland’s Garden Heroes. Carl, who is originally from Devon and moved to Clare in the 1990s, appeared on the new RTÉ One show Ireland’s Garden Heroes last Thursday, wowing the judges with his creative use of space and winning the show. Speaking to The Clare Champion Carl told us he is delighted with the win, adding that he was “quite surprised” when judge Ingrid Swan turned up to give him the good news. “They managed to cover their tracks pretty well. They said they were coming to do a bit of filming that hadn’t gone right last time, so we just assumed that’s what they were doing and then they turned up and surprised us”. Landmark Clare garden to feature on RTÉ One this Thursday

NESTLED deep in the heart of the Burren, Caher Bridge Garden in Fanore has over the years been wowing garden enthusiasts from all over the world, even bringing some to tears of joy. The award winning garden has appeared in magazines, newspapers and the Top 100 Gardens of Ireland book among other esteemed publications. So, it is surprising to discover that this Thursday (July 22) will see the garden make its very first television appearance, featuring on RTÉ One’s latest series Ireland’s Garden Heroes. The show, which will be broadcast at 8.30pm reveals the hard work and imagination ordinary people have put into their gardens across the island. German journalists enjoy gardens tour

Six German journalists will engage in a press trip along the Wild Atlantic Way over the next few days to enjoy a bespoke itinerary of a selection of gardens which will give a major boost in counties Clare, Galway and Limerick. These influential media have a combined circulation of over 1 million and write for a number of national and regional newspapers in Germany. As guests of Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Ireland, the group will get to see for themselves some amazing gardens and things to do along the Wild Atlantic Way. During their visit the group will meet members of the Irish Seed Savers Association which was set up to safeguard hundreds of heritage vegetable seeds at Capparoe in Scariff, and will pay a visit to Caher Bridge Garden in Fanore and take the Burren Walk with environmentalist Gordon D’Arcy.
