WATCH: Cliffs to showcase Clare crafts and food with new expo

THE best of Clare’s artisan food and crafts will enjoy a unique shop window next month at the inaugural Cliffs of Moher and Clare Retail Expo. Clare food and artisan suppliers will come together with consumers and retail buyers for the event which takes place over two days on February 19 and 20. Supported by the Clare Local Enterprise Office, Clare County Council and the Burren & Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark, the two-day event is the biggest showcase of its kind to be held in County Clare in recent years. The Expo opens at Cliffs of Moher Experience on Sunday February 19 with a business-to-consumer event from 10am to 4pm during which local Clare artists, producers and craftspeople will exhibit their products at Ireland’s most visited natural attraction. Cliffs of Moher launches new interactive mobile app

A FREE interactive mobile app has been launched for those visiting or planning to visit the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience in County Clare. With free Wi-Fi available throughout the main visitor centre building and viewing platforms, visitors will be able to access a range of information about the Cliffs of Moher via their smartphone. The app also contains 13 audio tracks narrated by Conor Tallon and features contributions from people with extensive knowledge of the rich history, geology, flora and fauna of Ireland’s most visited natural attraction. New Cliffs of Moher Board Appointed

CLARE County Council has announced the appointment of new members to the Board of Cliffs of Moher Centre Ltd. The new members will be involved in overseeing the policy planning and governance of the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience in Clare. The Board is chaired by entrepreneur and businessman Bobby Kerr, and also comprises individuals with a diverse knowledge of the tourism industry, product development, marketing, commercial development, finance, local government, local community and governance. A new strategy for the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience will be developed over the coming months following consultation with key stakeholders. Norton to attend ‘towns summit’

AN all-island summit with the main aim of helping resource our towns and villages to regenerate and grow is set to take place on October 18 in Sligo. The “Future of Towns Summit 2017”, hosted by Bobby Kerr, brings together thought leaders in town regeneration, government departments, local authorities, tourism, business associations and community groups from right across the island of Ireland. Local Councillor Ann Norton, will be speaking at the summit and will outline how a collaborative working relationship between Clare County Council, elected members, businesses and the local community has guided the development of Ennis and its environs in terms of economic development, recreational and community requirements, as well as residential, retail, transport and infrastructural needs. The seminar will also be addressed by Ennis-based David Fitzsimons of Retail Excellence Ireland.

Towards a better Kilkee in 10 years

IN a somewhat ironic twist in view of the devastation caused by the weekend’s storm,  “Towards a Better Kilkee: A Town Improvement & Economic Development Strategy 2014-2024,” was launched last night at the Culturlann Sweeney Library. Prepared by Clare County Council, in association with Kilkee Town Council and various community groups, the  key focus of the 10-year strategy is to generate new employment opportunities in a town that has a 36% unemployment rate, promote the local tourism product and enhance the physical appearance of Kilkee. The latter presents a huge challenge, now that the much core element of the seaside infrastructure has been so badly damaged. The short and medium-term priorities outlined in the strategy include carrying out a branding and marketing exercise for Kilkee, establishing contact with owners of all opportunity sites, promote the existing coastal walks by upgrading signage and information, conducting a survey of derelict sites in the town, carrying out upgrading works to the bandstand, producing a comprehensive …
