Audi’s shock SUV

Alright, whose bright idea was in to launch Audi’s first electric car in the oil state of Abu Dhabi? Either someone was having a laugh or there was a real sense of irony behind the choice. I’ve never been to the United Arab Emirates, or indeed anywhere near this part of the world, so it was quite a culture shock to see the city for the first time. Everywhere you go, you can see signs of serious money having being spent. You get the impression that if you came back again in five years, any scrap of desert you see would have another skyscraper built on it. The Sheikh Zayed Mosque, in the heart of the city, in my view is one of the wonders of the world. Completed only 2007, it contains €30 billion of white marble and if you ever get the chance to see it, grab it with both hands. Now, we’ve seen many Audi e-trons at …

Starts ups asked to pitch their idea in an Audi e-tron

Could you pitch your new business idea in 90 seconds while being driven around Mondello race rack? That’s what Audi Ireland asked start-up companies to do this week. As part of the Web Summit, taking place in Dublin this week, Audi Ireland offered start-ups the opportunity to take the elevator pitch challenge and pitch their idea to a venture capitalist. The only catch is they had to do it in the back of an Audi A3 Sportback e-tron, and complete their pitch in the time it takes to finish a lap of the Kildare track. The all-new A3 Sportback e-tron is Audi’s first plug-in hybrid model. This new car has the ability to cover up to 50 kilometres in electric mode and its TFSI petrol engine offers a range of over 900 kilometres in combined mode. Audi Ireland is the official car sponsor of this year’s Web Summit and are showcasing their adavanced technologies under the banner of “Audi Innovative …

Fuel consumption is quoted at 2.5 l/100 km and 0-100 km/h takes just 3.7 seconds. 21” wheels and short overhangs echo the styling of the original Sport quattro. Flat C-pillars and the rectangular double headlights complete the look. The headlights feature new Matrix LED technology, which will also be available later this year in the facelifted A8. Torque of 800 Nm is fed to the road through an eight speed tiptronic into a quattro drivetrain, with a differential on the rear axle. The engine itself is a 4.0 litre twin turbo V8, with the ability to deactivate up to four cylinders under part load. A stop start system also features. An electric motor, producing 150 bhp is mounted between the engine and the transmission. The …
