‘Positive’ outlook at Shannon’s Atlantic Aviation

IN examinership a few years ago, new accounts filed for Atlantic Aviation show it had a very successful 2016. The director’s report for the year states, “Since its successful exit from an examinership process in April 2015, the directors have focused on stabilising the business by growing the revenue line, improving efficiencies and reducing the cost base and continue to do so throughout 2017. “The directors are satisfied with the profitable results for the year and the outlook is positive. A number of managerial changes have taken place and the team has been strengthened in operations, marketing and HR to provide a platform for ongoing profitable growth. Criticism of proposed Ballycasey centre sale

THE proposed sale of Ballycasey Craft and Design Centre by Shannon Group was criticised at this week’s Shannon Municipal District meeting. Shannon Group were criticised for short-term thinking by looking to sell property, while it was claimed that selling the premises is very worrying for many of the business people based there. Councillor Gerry Flynn put a motion before the meeting asking that the Shannon Municipal District “call on Shannon Group to provide information concerning the sale of property from the property portfolio provided by the Government to maintain and support Shannon International Airport. That information also be provided concerning the recent proposal to offload Ballycasey workshops and also advise the council of any property in their ownership in the vicinity of SkyCourt Shopping Centre.” The independent councillor said that the closure of the old Shannon Development offices close to the town centre had a negative impact on the nearby businesses, while he said the council could do with knowing …

Major jobs announcement on the horizon

CLARE is expected to get its most significant jobs boost for a number of years within the next 12 weeks. While there is some uncertainty about the exact number of jobs that are to be created, it’s believed that it will be in excess of 500, possibly even in the region of 700. The company in question is a multinational based in Shannon and it is understood they have won a significant amount of new business and need new workers. This week, some informed sources said they expect the jobs will be announced within the first quarter of the year.
