Cranberries singer admitted to hospital

Gardai have confirmed that Dolores O’Riordan, lead singer with the band The Cranberries, was admitted to hospital at 11am today. The Limerick singer was arrested shortly before 6am this morning in connection with an alleged assault on board an Aer Lingus flight from New York’s JFK airport to Shannon Airport. It is understood that the alleged incident occurred shortly before landing at Shannon Airport in the Business class section of the plane. Upon arrival at Shannon, Ms O’Riordan was arrested, but during her arrest she is alleged to have lashed out at a garda. She was questioned this Monday morning at Shannon Garda Station but was transferred to hospital at approximately 11am having been seen by a doctor. Gardai are awaiting an assessment from the hospital before continuing their questioning of the Cranberries singer.

Dolores O’Riordan arrested over alleged airhostess assault

THE Lead singer of Irish rock group The Cranberries, Dolores O’Riordan, is currently being detained at Shannon Garda Station having been arrested at Shannon Airport this morning in connection with an alleged assault on board a flight. The singer was travelling on a flight from New York’s JFK airport and was arrested after it made its scheduled arrival at Shannon airport at 5.45am this morning (Monday). It is alleged that Ms O’Riordan assaulted a female air hostess during the flight and subsequently in the course of her arrest it is further alleged that she assaulted a male garda. An Aer Lingus air hostess received injuries to her leg during the flight and is presently being treated at University Hospital Limerick. The Limerick singer can be detained at Shannon Garda Station for a maximum of 12 hours.

Cambodian war survivor threatened to “blow the plane”

A FRENCH national, originally from Cambodia, travelling on board an Air Transat flight, which diverted to Shannon Airport, had threatened to “blow the plane by opening the doors”, Ennis District Court heard. Mr Som Chanh (55)  used the winnings of €945 from a Euromillions draw to purchase his ticket so he could meet his family for the first time in more than 30 years. Mr Som Chanh, with an address of 2 Place Des Feders 93160 Noisy Le Grand, Paris, was on board a Paris to Montreal flight, which was diverted to Shannon Airport on Monday due to an “air rage” incident. His solicitor Stiofan Fitzpatrick told the court his client had survived the Cambodian war, sought refuge in France in 1977  and had recently learned that his mother was alive and living in Montreal. Chanh was given the benefit of the probation act after pleading  guilty to charges of engaging in behaviour likely to cause serious offence or annoyance …

Lauren case puts spotlight on courthouse

THE jury is still out on whether the old Killaloe Courthouse will be handed over by the Courts Service for community use. There have been renewed calls for the Courts Service to transfer the courthouse to Clare County Council in the wake of the huge publicity generated by the hearing of the Jennifer Lauren air-rage case at the Brian Boru on the Hill bar and restaurant in Ballina. Over and past two years, barrister and Labour Deputy, Michael McNamara has been told on numerous occasions by the Courts Service that a decision on the future of Killaloe Courthouse is imminent. “It is now time for the Courts Service to make a decision once and for all on what to do with this protected structure in the centre of historic Killaloe. Jennifer Lauren in court over airline incident

By Carol Byrne THE niece of fashion designer Ralph Lauren has appeared before a sitting of Killaloe District Court on Tuesday charged with being a danger to herself or others on an international flight. Forty-one-year-old Jennifer Lauren, of  New York, was on board a flight that was diverted to Shannon on Monday while en route from Barcelona to JFK. Ms Lauren is charged with being intoxicated to such an extent that she would endanger herself or others on board a Delta Airlines flight on Monday, January 6. She is also charged with engaging in behaviour likely to cause serious offence or annoyance to those on board the flight, having been requested by a crew member to cease this behaviour. She is further charged with engaging in behaviour of a threatening, abusive or insulting nature on the aircraft.
