Injured man airlifted to hospital after presenting at Garda station with burns

A man has been airlifted to hospital after he sustained burns in an accident and went to a local Garda station to seek help, reports Pat Flynn. Gardaí were surprised to see the man present himself at Ennistymon station this afternoon, but quickly jumped into action and treated the injured man until ambulance paramedics arrived. It’s understood the man suffered burns in an accident in a domestic setting and made his way to Ennistymon Garda station to seek assistance. Gardaí administered first aid to the injured man and alerted the National Ambulance Service. Paramedics made their way to the Garda station where they assessed and treated the casualty. A decision was made to have the patient airlifted to hospital in Galway rather than transport him by road ambulance which would have taken up 90 minutes. The National Ambulance Service (NAS) requested the Cork-based charity-funded Irish Community Air Ambulance, Helimed-92, to carry out the mission. In the meantime, the injured man …

US visitor thankful for air-raising experience

AN American has credited Irish Community Air Ambulance and National Ambulance Service personnel for saving his life after he suffered a heart attack while on holiday in North Clare. Michael Almada lives near Cape Cod but has been visiting Ireland for the last 20 years, and always spends some time in Kilfenora when in this country. Prior to Monday, September 6, the 68-year-old walked at least six miles a day and regularly ran and cycled. However on that morning a heart attack struck. After an ambulance was summoned paramedics assessed Michael and found he was suffering from a serious blockage. The Irish Community Air Ambulance was alerted and they landed in a nearby field. He was brought to the Cardiac Cath Lab at the University of Limerick and an operation was completed within 45 minutes of taking off from Kilfenora. Cyclist airlifted to hospital

A cyclist was airlifted to hospital on Thursday evening with extensive injuries following an accident a few miles from her home. The woman, in her early 40s and from Sixmilebridge, had been cycling with friends along a country road at Granaghan More, near Fenloe Lake, when the accident occurred. It’s understood that she was in collision with a passing lorry and sustained extensive injuries to one of her hands. Two units of the fire brigade from Shannon along with an ambulance and rapid response advanced paramedic unit from Ennis responded to the incident. The Emergency Aeromedical Service was alerted and the HSE’s air ambulance, operated by the Air Corps, was requested to attend the scene. Fire crews selected a clear landing site for the helicopter before she was airlifted to University Hospital Galway for emergency surgery. The other cyclists were uninjured but were said to have been left badly shaken by the incident. Gardaí from Newmarket on Fergus are investigating.
