“Seán Earls took over as chairman and he put out feelers to see if we could come up with a novel idea for fundraising. Personally, I hadn’t ever climbed Croagh Patrick, nor had lots of others.

“So we put the wheels in motion and we put together an ad hoc committee, who aren’t really involved in the day-to-day running of the club,” Mike explained.

“We felt we’d come together for six or seven weeks, get out again and hand the money over to the club. We’re absolutely delighted with the response we’ve had. We want to make the climb a day for the parish and indeed it’s open to anybody that wants to climb. We won’t turn away anybody,” he assured any would-be climbers.

Sponsorship cards are circulating in the area and for additional information, contact John Condon on 087 0615533 or Ger O’Halloran on 087 2798022.
