Short story competition calling for firey imaginations

Clare entrants are being sought for this year’s Specsavers and the Bord Gais Energy Irish Book Awards.
Inspired by a beautiful cartoon from a fairy tale, children from across Ireland are being challenged to create a short story in 500 words or less beginning with the sentence “He could not believe his eyes…” The cartoon features a magical young boy who loves adventure and his sidekick, a mischievous fairy.

The competition is open to all children and teenagers up to 16 years of age and the closing date for applications is Friday, November 30. Entry forms are available from Specsavers in Ennis or www.irishbookawards.ie.

Two winners will receive all shortlisted titles in the Specsavers Irish Children’s Book of the Year category from this year’s Bord Gais Energy Irish Book Awards and their school library will receive a donation of some of the best Irish books from the last year.

All stories and completed entry forms should be posted to Specsavers Short Story Competition, c/o WHPR, 6 Ely Place, Dublin 2.
