Pedestrianisation plan for festive season

Car Tourismo Banner

PLANS for the pedestrianisation of a number of streets in the town in the run-up to Christmas are currently underway. It is proposed that O’Connell Street, Abbey Street and O’Connell Square will be pedestrianised from Saturday, December 5 and for all following Saturdays up to Christmas Eve.
Previous years have seen streets pedestrianised for Sundays also but the local authority has taken into account the level of business activity on Sundays, particularly in the present economic climate.
Consultation has taken place between members of Ennis Town Council and Ennis Chamber. The council will consider submissions received prior to making a final decision on the temporary closure of these streets to traffic.
It is also intended to turn on the town’s Christmas lights on Friday, December 4.
