Oyster festival gets underway

THE 55th Clarenbridge Oyster Festival begins this weekend with the annual Clarenbridge Market Day taking place on Saturday from noon to 5.30pm.
The main events take place the following weekend when the festival highlight, the Classic Oyster Gala Celebration takes place.

On Friday, September 11, from 9.30pm to 1.30am there will be music and entertainment by The Oyster Boys followed by country legend, Mike Denver.
Entertainment at Saturday’s Classic Oyster Gala Celebration will include Da Dearga, the Whiskey River Band and The Keaney Dance Act. There will also be oyster eating and sean nós dancing competitions and the event will end with music from The Classic Beatles.
The gala begins at 4.30pm and continues to 12.30am. The compere on the day will be Daithí Ó Sé, TG4 weatherman and winning judge of this year’s All-Ireland Talent Show.
On Sunday, September 13, there will be a family fun day in association with Alan Kerins African Project. This will include a children’s disco, fancy dress, art competitions and guests.
