O’Mahoney and Grealish victorious at Kilmurry McMahon meeting


The Clare Athletic Association four-mile road championship for men and two-mile for ladies was held on a cold and blustery afternoon in Kilmurry McMahon on Sunday, hosted by St Mary’s Athletic Club.

Photograph by John KellyBefore events got underway, there was a minute’s silence for the late Dan O’Halloran from Kilmihil, who died on Saturday. Dan was actively involved for many years with Kilmihil AC and with Clare athletics.
Michelle O’Mahoney, Kilmurry-Ibrickane/North Clare won the senior ladies’ two-mile title with a time of 12mins.22secs from Sharon Rynne, Kilmurry-Ibrickane/North Clare, with Tracy Guilfoyle, Kilnaboy, claiming the bronze medal.
Kilmurry-Ibrickane/North Clare won the team title ahead of Ennis Track and St Mary’s.
Marian Burke won the Masters Ladies’  O-35 title, with Aisling Power, Ennis Track, the leading master O-40, Michelle O’Mahoney taking the over-45s and Maura Falsey, Kilmurry-Ibrickane/North Clare the leading master O-50.
Martin Grealish, Ennis Track, won the men’s title in a time of 20mins.57secs after leading from start to finish from his clubmates, Liam Markham and Michael Maher, with Ennis Track having six athletes in the top 10 to claim the inter-club title from St John’s and Kilmurry-Ibrickane/North Clare.
Danny Folan, Ennis Track, captured the novice title in 22mins.01secs from Keith White and Eoin Brew, St John’s, with St John’s taking the inter-club title from Ennis Track and Kilmurry-Ibrickane/North Clare.
The Masters’ O-35 title went to Brian Spring, Ennis Track, with Terry Hennessy, St Cronan’s taking the O-40s, Martin Clancy, Kilmurry-Ibrickane/North Clare, the O-45s, James Kenny, Kilmurry-Ibrickane/North Clare, taking the O-50s, with Frank Garrihy, Ennis Track, taking the O-55s title and Seán Whelan, Ennis Track, the O-60s.
