New casual trading bylaws being prepared

NEW bylaws on casual trading in Ennis are on the way.
In a report to the council this week, town clerk, Eddie Power said that work is already underway on preparing them.

“Consultation has already taken place with the representatives of the casual traders and the business community in the market area. A further series of meetings are scheduled to take place. It is intended that new draft bylaws will be published before the end of November. The draft bylaws will be on public display and submissions may be submitted for consideration. A report on any submissions received will be considered by the elected members of Ennis Town Council as part of the process of making new bylaws.”
At Monday’s Ennis Town Council meeting, Mr Power said that the current bylaws do not provide a serious incentive to comply, as the penalties in place were “miniscule”.
Despite the minor penalties, Councillor Johnny Flynn said that it was still worthwhile enforcing the bylaws, as habitual offenders may face stiffer penalties at a later date.
