Kilmaley favourites to regain league title

The Clare Senior Camogie League title will have a new home for 2010. Newmarket, last year’s winners, were knocked out when Clooney-Quin defeated them in a recent play-off.

Kilmaley will look to regain the title they won when capturing the championship and league double in 2008 when they play Clooney-Quin this Friday evening.
Kilmaley have been the standard-bearers in camogie within the county for the past number of years. They were narrowly defeated in last year’s league final after a replay but they went on to retain the senior championship.
They have gained huge experience on the way, after reaching All-Ireland club final and then competing at Munster senior level last year. They also won the U-18A championship last year
Clooney-Quin will be the underdogs. They won the Glenorma Shield last year, defeating Broadford easily, but were disappointed with their championship run. Reaching the league final this year is a huge boost to the club, who have been at senior level for the past three years and this is their first major final. They have had a tougher run in the league than their opponents and they will be hoping that this will stand to them in the final.
Kilmaley will be looking to Shónagh Enright, Claire and Helen McMahon, Denise Lynch, Katie Cahill and Lorna Higgins in their bid to regain the title while Clooney-Quin will look to Deirdre Murphy, Kelly MacLean, Orlaith Duggan, Aisling Hannon and Jessica O’Neill to lead the way. They may be without Claire Ryan, who is struggling to regain fitness after a hand injury.
This is the first time the teams have met competitively in senior ranks and there should be little between them.
Kilmaley’s experience and ability to grind out a win should be enough on the evening.
