Ideal weather for Lissycasey races

FERGUS Athletic Club hosted the Patrick O’Dea open cross country and 5km road races in Lissycasey on the lands of JJ Sheehan last Sunday.
Weather conditions were ideal and this helped ensure that there were big entries for all races.
In the ladies’ 5,000 metres road race, Marian Burke, St Mary’s, recorded a great victory in 19mins.47secs, with Sharon Rynne, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare, second and Cushla Murphy Hehir, Marian, third. Ennis Track won the team title ahead of St Mary’s and Fergus AC.
Michael Maher, Ennis Track, was victorious in the men’s 5,000 metres race in 16mins.52secs with Paul Daly, St John’s, second followed by his clubmate. Eoin Brew, St John’s, took the senior men’s team title and the Bernie Meaney Shield ahead of Marian and Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare.
In the novice race, there was a great win for Keith White, St John’s, in 17mins.34secs, with a mighty battle for the minor places resulting in Noel Garry, St John’s taking the runner-up spot ahead of Dermot Neylon, Marian.
The Patrick O’Dea Cup was presented to Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare for the best overall club on the day, with 256 points, with second spot going to St John’s on 195 points followed by St Mary’s on 169 points.
In the girls’ U-7, Shauna O’Gorman, Kilmihil, won the gold medal with Fionn Kelleher, Marian, recording a great victory in the boys’ U-7.
Keisha Attwell, St Mary’s, led from start to finish to take the girls’ U-8 title while Conor Blake, St John’s, won the boys’ title after a mighty battle with Ben Whelehan, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare.
The girls’ U-10 over 800 metres was a great race and Alex O’Neill, St Cronan’s, had to produce a big sprint on the way to the finish to take the title from Fidelma Marrinan, St John’s and Tara Kelly, St Mary’s.
The winner of the boys’ U-10 title was Aidan McCarthy, St Cronan’s.
Cliodhna Blake, St John’s, led all the way to win the girls’ U-12 title. There was a great contest for the boys’ title, with victory going to Keith White, St Cronan’s, from Mark Fennell, St Mary’s and Patrick O’Rourke, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare.
There was a mighty contest in the girls’ U-14 between Rachel Clancy, St John’s and Siobhán Nestor, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare and Clancy had to produce a big finish to win.
In the boys’ U-14, Jacob Loughnane, Marian, was a very impressive winner
In the girls’ U-16, Laura Egan, Kilmihil,  dominated from start to finish. Ian Slobody Kilmihil did likewise in the boys’ U-16.
