Hospice fundraisers are no push-overs

The annual bed push through Ennis raised much-needed funds for Cahercalla and despite the rain, there was still plenty of support for the effort.
According to fundraising manager Mary Maloney, “We don’t have a final figure yet for the amount raised but people were very good to us. With the weather, everything was wet when it came back to us, so it will take a while to sort out but people were very generous.
“It was hard work for everyone involved pushing that bed and we had lots of volunteers with their collection buckets as the bed made its way through Ennis. It was absolutely fantastic to see the support out there for the wonderful service that is provided by Cahercalla.”
She paid tribute to Clare hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald for his involvement in the fundraising effort.
The bed push began at 10am, with a picnic halfway for all those involved in Roslevan, before finishing up at about 6pm. “The picnic was certainly very welcome for the volunteers and staff,” said Mary.
She added, “This event would not have been possible without the volunteers, who mean so much to us. We really appreciate what they did. It’s not easy standing in the rain with a bucket collecting money. It really shows the goodwill that is out there for us and for the staff in the hospice.
“A lot of people who were out there collecting would have a connection with Cahercalla in some place and for them it is a way of giving something back. We are very appreciative of that,” she said.
