Homecoming for Clare hurlers


WIN, lose or draw, Ennis Town Council and Clare County Council will host a joint homecoming event for the Clare senior hurlers and their management in recognition of their hurling exploits this season.

The homecoming will also celebrate the success of the Clare U-21 hurlers in winning back-to-back All-Ireland titles and the squad, along with their management, will also be introduced to the crowd at Tim Smythe Park, formerly known as The Fairgreen, on Sunday night.

Entertainment will commence at 6pm and both teams are expected to arrive at 7.30pm. The homecoming event will be broadcast to worldwide audiences on the Ennis App and on www.ennisapp.ie.

Public parking arrangements and traffic restrictions will be in place. Road closures will be in place from 4.30pm to 12 midnight  at  Steele’s Terrace/Newbridge Road from College Road to Kelly’s Korner Roundabout, at New Road from its junction with Tulla Road and Newbridge Road, at Dr Daly Road from its junction with New Road to its junction with Lifford Road and from Lifford Road  where one lane will open in direction from Kelly’s Korner to Tulla Road with restricted access from Tulla Road to St Joseph’s Hospital.

Parking for people with disabilities and their carers will be available at the courthouse car park and the car park of St Joseph’s Hospital. Access to the council’s car park at New Road, the courthouse car park and the car park at St Joseph’s Hospital will not be available to the general public

Members of the public travelling by car to the homecoming can avail of parking at various other locations throughout the town.

The event will be an alcohol-free event and while there will be designated non-food trading areas near the Tim Smyth Park, no food or drink outlets or traders will be allowed in the area. Local businesses in the area will remain open that evening to facilitate those attending the event.

As part of the event, the organisers will be installing a stage, with big screen, toilet facilities, additional lighting, first aid and crowd-control barriers in Tim Smyth Park where the running track is located. On the night, there will be music and other entertainment, which will be supported by a sound system.

Members of the public attending the event are requested to comply with instructions or guidance provided by stewards and members of An Garda Síochána.
