Council offers athletic club 3.2 hectares

CLARE County Councillors have agreed to lease a smaller portion of land to Shannon Athletic Club for 150 years at a nominal rent of €1 annually.
Councillors approved the lease of lands for 150 years including the old Shannon all-weather pitch to Shannon Athletic Club at a local electoral area meeting last October.
The area referred to in the notice before the members was 3.306 hectares. However, in a report prepared for councillors at a county council meeting on Monday, senior executive officer, Michael McNamara, stated it was necessary to resurvey the actual area involved following the erection of the boundary to the affected lands.
The new area of land following the second survey measures about 3.22 hectares as shown on a county council map.
Councillors were informed that the new area of land being leased to Shannon Athletic Club is 3.22 hectares and this was agreed at a local electoral area meeting last February.
This resolution was proposed by Councillor Gerry Flynn and seconded by Councillor Patricia McCarthy and PJ Ryan at a county council meeting on Monday.
