Call out for Trasna 3 submissions

THE call has gone out for submissions to Trasna 3, a Christmas exhibition that accompanies a unique auction at the Courthouse Gallery in Ennistymon.

Speaking about Trasna 3, curator Trudi Van Der Elsen said, “It started three years ago and it has been a great success. Anyone can send in a piece of art that is postcard size, A5. It can be of any material, a drawing, a painting, a little sculpture that you put up.”

She said that an auction accompanying the exhibition helps fund the Courthouse Gallery and that there is a lot of interest in taking part. “At the opening, we have an auction and all the pieces of art will have a reserve of €40 and it can go up from that. Twenty five per cent of the sale price goes towards the running costs of the gallery.

“Last year, there were national and international artists. All of the names are written on the back of the pieces, so we don’t know who made the work. You see the art on the wall, you don’t know who has made it, so you’re being very objective, it’s just about what you like. There could be a famous artist next to somebody who’s not known at all and you might just think that the piece by the person who isn’t well known is better.”

Artists can submit three pieces of work and the deadline for them is November 29. The opening of the exhibition and the auction will take place on December 7 at 8pm.
