Breen calls for CLAR funding for former Crusheen station

FINE Gael’s Deputy Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Clare TD Pat Breen has called on the new Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs Pat Carey to make the necessary CLAR Funding available so that a rail stop at Crusheen can come on line as soon as possible.

“Following the successful reopening of services on the Limerick to Galway rail line which includes stops at Sixmilebridge, Gort and Ardrahan, I was disappointed that a train stop at Crusheen was not included in this phase of the development of the Western Rail Corridor. And as a result of which, I wrote to Iarnród Éireann’s chief executive Richard Fearn expressing my disappointment and pointing out the potential that a stop in Crusheen would provide for the further development of services on this line and the fact that it would open up access to the entire North and East Clare Area,” Deputy Breen stated.
In his response, Mr Fearn pointed out that a local developer is prepared to make some land available and that Clare County Council supports the project.
“The final part of the jigsaw is for the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs to provide the necessary funding. The previous Minister Eamon Ó Cuív indicated his support for this project and I would appeal to the new Minister Pat Carey, to follow through on this support now,” Deputy Breen continued.
Iarnród Éireann has submitted a formal application for funding this year, the letter from Mr Fearn to Deputy Carey stated.
“I would urge Minister Carey to make the necessary funding available so that a train station at Crusheen can come on line as soon as possible,” Deputy Breen concluded.
