Big names for Doolin Festival


Doolin Folk Festival is taking place this weekend, with a number of big names coming to North Clare.
The entire festival is taking place on the grounds of Hotel Doolin, less than a mile from the site of the famous Lisdoonvarna Festival of the late 1970s and early ’80s.
Things get underway on Friday afternoon, with Peadar Reilly and Friends performing from 5 to 6pm. After this, Socks in the Frying Pan will be on from 6.30 to 7.30pm and from 8 to 9.30pm, it’s Scullion. From 10 to 11.30pm Martin Hayes and Steve Cooney are on with special guest Iarla Ó Lionáird, who is well known from his involvement with the Afro Celt Sound System.
From 12 to 1.30am, The Céilí Bandits will be on stage with Kevin Griffin. Kevin is from Doolin himself and has recorded three popular CDs, Traditional Irish Music from Doolin, Co Clare, Across The Pond with Roger Burridge, Michael Shorrock and Quentin Cooper (2002) and Kevin Griffin with Eoin O’Neill and Quentin Cooper (2009).
The day will close, as is the case on each day with the Festival Club Hop by DJ Donal Scannell beginning at 1.30am.
On Saturday, from 1 to 1.45pm, Lowtone Trio will play, while from 2 to 3pm it will be Edel Fox, Neil Byrne and Caoimhín Ó Fearghaill. From 4pm to 5.15pm it will be Fidil and 5.45pm to 6.45pm it will be the Young Folk. From 7pm to 7.45pm Dermot Byrne and Floriane Blake will be on, followed by Karan Casey and John Doyle from 8.15pm to 9.15pm. JP Trio and Niamh Farrell will be on from 9.45pm to 10.45pm. The final acts of the evening will be Luka Bloom and Hermitage Green.
On Sunday from 1 to 2.30pm, the Doolin Céilí Band featuring Christy Barry and Kevin Griffin will play and from 3pm to 4pm James Cullinan, Dermot Byrne and Steve Cooney will be onstage.
