Arts bursaries

CLARE Arts Office has announced four bursaries to assist artists and those engaged in creative activities in the county to develop themselves personally, professionally and artistically. The bursaries are available to the Tyrone Guthrie Artists Retreat, the Drama League of Ireland Summer School, the Meitheal Traditional Music Summer School and for an Irish Youth Choir training course.
The bursary for the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Annaghmakerrig, County Monaghan allows an artist of any discipline the opportunity to stay at the internationally renowned centre for up to two weeks, all expenses paid.
Each artist is allocated their own studio in this spectacular setting of woodland and lakes. Interaction with the other resident artists is encouraged and a group dinner takes place each evening. This bursary is open to all professional artists. 2012 also sees the introduction of a specific bursary for a printmaker to share the new printmaking facilities in the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. The printmaker should be a member of recognised print making group/collective.
Two bursaries are being awarded by Clare County Council for the Drama League of Ireland’s Summer School at the University of Limerick.
The first bursary is all inclusive and allows the recipient to undertake one of the courses on offer. The second bursary is non-residential but includes lunch and tuition.
Applications are invited from those involved in theatre or drama in Clare and young people between the ages of 18 and 21 are particularly encouraged to apply. Details of the courses on offer at the summer school are available from the Drama League of Ireland’s website www.dli.ie.
Two bursaries are also being provided to the Meitheal Traditional Music Summer School taking place in Limerick. The aim of this is to assist young Clare musicians to attend the summer school to develop their music skills through an intensive programme of masterclasses and workshops with noted traditional musicians. The bursary covers 50% of the course fees, accommodation and meals. Full details on the school are available at www.tradweek.com.
Finally, to celebrate the Irish Youth Choir’s 30th birthday, Clare Arts Office is providing two bursaries for young singers to participate in the choir’s residential training course and touring programme in 2012.
The first bursary covers all costs associated with the residential course and the second covers fees and meals.
Application forms are available at www.clarecoco.ie and www.clarelibrary.ie/arts.htm. The closing date for all applicatons is Friday, March 2.
Applicants should clearly mark which bursary they are applying for and send their application to County Arts Office, County Library, New Road, Ennis. Further information from 065 6899091 or arts@clarelibrary.ie.
