A senior garda source confirmed that three young males wearing balaclavas entered Cusack Stores between 6.50pm and 7pm on Tuesday. “One was carrying a machete and one was carrying a baseball bat. Both of these armed men went in behind the counter of the shop and threatened the two female staff. The third party remained outside the door of the shop on lookout,” he said.
“They took two cash registers and made off on foot from the shop. Between €1,500 and €2,000 was taken in the robbery. One of the cash registers was found shortly after the incident near the shop but the other hasn’t been recovered,” he continued.
Gardaí said neither of the shop assistants were injured in the robbery but were extremely traumatised as a result of being threatened with weapons. No customers were in the shop at the time of the robbery.
