An earnest attempt to Wake Romeo

PEOPLE in Ennis can enjoy some lunchtime entertainment next Wednesday.

At 1pm In earnest Theatre Company will present To Wake Romeo at Glór. The group is made up of participants in Clare VEC’s Back to Education Initiative.

“It’s a brand new theatre company and a brand new play,” said Karen Fitzgibbon, the group’s tutor and director of the play.

“They wrote it themselves through improvisation techniques that they used in class. They’ve never been on stage before, so it’s completely new to them. It’s part of their creative drama course, they’re doing five modules under the umbrella of getting creative, and one of them requires them to come up with their own play from start to finish,” she says of In earnest.

“The play is about this family and they’re burying their father. Then there are a series of events that happen and everyone isn’t what they seem at the beginning. It’s a comedy/farce, with a dark theme. It’s very funny and well acted,” she added.

“It has been a huge challenge but they really are rising to it and it’s an incredible achievement to start off with a blank page and bring it to the stage.”

The play is 25 minutes long and admission is free.
